With his talent, he released two mixtapes, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights, both of which were critically acclaimed. As a walk-on player at St. John’s University in his teenage years, Cole played for a Division one Men’s Basketball program. Speaking to Sports Illustrated in 2013, the rapper revealed that to succeed at basketball, he practiced in great detail a thousand shots a day, sprints, minute drills, and one-on-one sessions every day with A.B. Lehmann, a member of the team. He wasn’t the star player, but he overgrew, and he eventually dropped out of basketball in pursuit of his music career, which he decided to pursue after finishing school.
There was just one little thing left for him to do at that point; he had to release his first studio album ‘Cole Story: The Other Side’ in 2011, and the album instantly climbed to the top spot in the Billboard 200 chart in the very first week it was released. The artist followed up the success of his first album in 2013 with another one titled ‘Born Sinner,’ which included artists such as Kendrick Lamar, TLC, and Miguel. After making its Billboard debut at no.2 and selling more than 250000 copies in its first week alone, the album climbed up the charts.
In its third week, the album rose to the top of the chart and became the most popular album on that prestigious chart. One of his most famous works, to date, comes in the form of ‘4 your eyes only and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts right after its release in 2016. Among all the albums released in 2016, it finished as the third most popular album by weekly sales, coming in third to Drake’s Views and Beyoncé’s lemonade. During the time Cole spent between releasing the albums, Cole kept appearing on other rappers’ singles, and he released a mixtape called “Revenge of the Dreamers.”
