Tom Hanks was born in Concord, California, on July 9, 1956, to Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook, and Janet Marylyn, an employee of a local hospital. There are three siblings: Sandra, Larry, and Jim. His parents separated in 1960. Larry, Tom, and Sandra were raised by their father, while Jim, the youngest brother, was raised by his mother.

As a young boy, he moved from place to place before settling in Oakland. He was a young boy. He received his high school education at Skyline High School, Oakland, and graduated from the institute in 1974. As a student at Chabot College in Hayward, California, he switched to California State University, Sacramento, to study acting. A Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival internship offered him in 1977 led him to discontinue his studies.

He married actress and producer Samantha Lewes in 1978. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1987. The couple is blessed with two children: Colin and Elizabeth. In 1988, he married Rita Wilson, an actress with whom he co-starred in Volunteers. Both of the couple’s children are named Chester and Truman.
